A particularly interesting Cartier Ceinture, reference 78100, distinguished by its London import hallmarks and original 18K yellow gold Cartier deployant clasp. Dating to the 1980s, this example offers a fascinating glimpse into Cartier’s London production and retail history, making it a more unusual variation of an already distinctive model.
The Ceinture is characterised by its beautifully architectural square case, softened by rounded corners and a stepped bezel. Its name, meaning “belt” in French, refers to the case’s resemblance to a belt buckle. The design stands apart from Cartier’s more familiar rectangular models, offering a bold yet elegant interpretation of the classic dress watch.
This particular watch retains its original Swiss-made Cartier dial. We also have an original Cartier replacement dial available through Cartier service, should a future owner wish to have the watch restored. However, we have deliberately chosen to preserve the original dial and its present configuration. Given the importance of its London import history, we believe retaining the watch in its original form is the more meaningful choice for collectors.
The original 18K yellow gold deployant clasp carries its London hallmarks, further distinguishing this example. Together, the London import markings, original clasp and Swiss-made Cartier dial make this a particularly interesting reference for collectors of Cartier’s international production.
