A charming Movado Ermeto retailed by the renowned Swiss jeweller Türler of Zürich, combining an ingenious piece of early watchmaking with the distinctive Art Deco styling of the 1920s and 1930s. This particularly attractive example features its original dark brown leather-covered sliding case and a beautifully aged dial bearing both the Movado and Türler Zürich signatures. It is further accompanied by its original Movado presentation box, making it a lovely and increasingly uncommon vintage set.
The Ermeto was introduced by Movado in 1926, following an ingenious case design developed by the Swiss case maker Huguenin Frères. Its two sliding outer covers protect the dial when closed and reveal the timepiece when drawn apart. Later versions incorporated an ingenious winding mechanism operated by opening and closing the case itself, making the Ermeto one of the more inventive portable watches of its era.
The rectangular dial features bold Arabic numerals, an elegant railway-style minute track and a subsidiary seconds display. Its naturally aged surface gives the watch considerable character, while the double signature of Movado and Türler Zürich adds an interesting piece of retail history. Founded in 1883, Türler became one of Switzerland's most respected jewellery and watch retailers, known for offering timepieces from some of the finest Swiss manufacturers.
The watch is presented in its original dark brown leather-covered sliding case, which remains in outstanding condition. The combination of its unusual construction, original leather covering and beautifully preserved period presentation makes this a particularly appealing example of the Ermeto.
The timepiece has been carefully inspected and serviced by our watchmaker and comes with a 1-year mechanical warranty. It is accompanied by its original Movado presentation box.
