An exceptionally rare Cartier Tank Normale Ref. 78092 in 18k white gold, dating from 1973 and bearing the remarkable serial number 0006. Produced in very limited numbers, white-gold examples of the Tank Normale are seldom encountered, making this an especially significant piece within Cartier's vintage production. With fewer than ten white-gold examples currently known to us, and its exceptionally early serial number, this is quite possibly one of the earliest examples of its kind.
The 23 × 31 mm case is crafted entirely from 18k white gold, featuring the distinctive squared brancards and beautifully defined edges that characterise the Tank Normale. Originally introduced in 1917, the Tank was one of Louis Cartier's most important creations. The Normale represents the original Tank silhouette in its purest form, with a more substantial and squared-off appearance than the later Tank Louis. Its revival in the 1973 Louis Cartier Collection brought this historic design back into the spotlight.
The original white Cartier dial features classic black Roman numerals, a traditional chemin de fer minute track and beautifully blued steel sword hands. The signature blue sapphire cabochon crown provides a striking contrast against the cool white-gold case, completing one of Cartier's most recognisable design combinations.
Inside beats the hand-wound Cartier Calibre 78-1, a traditional Swiss mechanical movement selected for the Maison's 1970s Tank collection. Its manual-winding construction and understated finishing are perfectly suited to the character of this early Tank Normale.
What makes this particular example even more remarkable is its serial number 0006. The watch was officially serviced by Cartier in April 2025 and is accompanied by the original Cartier service documentation, providing valuable provenance for such an unusual vintage reference. It retains its original Cartier white-gold deployant folding clasp and is fitted with a leather strap.

The Tank Normale is arguably the purest expression of Louis Cartier's original Tank design, yet it remains considerably less frequently encountered than the familiar Tank Louis. Finding one in 18k white gold is already an unusual occurrence; finding an example bearing serial number 0006 makes this particular watch exceptionally special. A remarkable opportunity to acquire a very early and exceptionally rare piece of Cartier history, freshly serviced by the Maison itself.
